Pestana Viking Swing: half-day beach walk

Description

If you have around 4 hours, this is a very pleasant walk that can be done almost entirely on foot, with some of the best views on the Algarve coast. Start at the Pestana Viking Swing and connect Nossa Senhora da Rocha Beach, Praia Nova, and the Cova Redonda area at an easy pace, with time for photos, coffee or ice cream, and cliff views without needing the car again after parking.

In total, expect around 5 to 6 km of walking, including steps, cliffside sections, and short detours down to the sand.

1 Attraction Pestana Viking Swing, Lagoa Porches Start at the Pestana Viking Swing, leaving 20 to 30 minutes for photos and views over the cliffs, the Atlantic, and Nossa Senhora da Rocha Beach. 2 Attraction Nossa Senhora da Rocha Beach, Lagoa Porches Walk to Nossa Senhora da Rocha Beach. It is worth going down to the sand, enjoying the rock formations, and climbing back to the chapel and old fort headland for almost 360º coastal views. 3 Attraction Praia Nova, Lagoa Porches Cross the tunnel carved through the cliff to Praia Nova. It is a short, photogenic stretch and a good place for a little beach walk if the tide is favourable.

4 Note Coffee or ice cream break On the way back, stop at Café Aurora or Sweet Spot Porches, depending on whether you want coffee, a light bite, or an ice cream.

5 Attraction Cova Redonda Beach, Lagoa Porches Before returning to the swing, follow part of the coastal trail towards Cova Redonda Beach. This stretch has some of the best views of the golden cliffs and turquoise sea.

6 Note Tips Wear comfortable shoes and bring water and a hat. The route is easy, but it includes steps and a few uneven sections. For sunset photos, reach the swing about 45 minutes before sunset.
