An easily accessible boardwalk with some seating (not a lot, but some) along the way. You can walk along a beautiful salt marsh looking back at Alvor and the surrounding area, or head towards an outstanding natural beach. It's almost completely flat and great for all ages/abilities. Just off the Alvor town centre, it's worth a look if you are in the area.
The boardwalk at Passadiços de Alvor is one of the most pleasant walks in the Algarve. Stretching several kilometers along the Ria de Alvor lagoon and the dunes behind Praia de Alvor, it offers wide views of the wetlands, the ocean, and the surrounding countryside. The wooden walkway makes the route easy to follow and protects the fragile marsh ecosystem while allowing visitors to explore the area comfortably. Depending on the season you may see fishermen in the lagoon, seabirds feeding in the tidal flats, or locals walking and cycling along the path. At the western end the boardwalk connects directly with Praia de Alvor, a long and beautiful beach backed by dunes. The sand is fine and the shoreline stretches for kilometers, making it easy to find quieter sections even when the town is busy. The walk is mostly flat and suitable for a relaxed stroll, with several access points from Alvor village and nearby parking areas. It’s particularly beautiful in the late afternoon when the light over the lagoon becomes golden and the beach begins to quiet down. A great place for walking, photography, or simply enjoying the coastal landscape of the Algarve.
Such a stunning area! A perfect spot for a relaxing walk with beautiful views. We went with our little granddaughter in her stroller—it was a smooth, easy walk the whole way. Peaceful, scenic, and very accessible. Highly recommend!
This is a nice trail to enjoy. Lots of boardwalks, some dirt trails, and plenty of beach walking if you want it. And, of course some beautiful views of the ocean. I believe it's close to 5km for the whole loop. Very peaceful and easy. We spent about two hours by taking our time and enjoying the views.
Went here with Tomi on the last day of our trip to Portugal and it was such a beautiful way to end the visit. The nature here is completely different from what we have in Czech Republic and Slovakia - the salt marshes, sand dunes, and coastal landscapes are something we don't see at home. The weather was perfect and the air felt so fresh and clean, especially walking along the boardwalks through the wetlands. Really enjoyed experiencing this unique Portuguese coastal environment before heading back. The Passadiços de Alvor is a 5km network of wooden boardwalks that wind through the Ria de Alvor Nature Reserve, connecting the beach with salt marshes, dunes, and the river estuary. The area is known for diverse birdlife and scenic coastal views.
