Red Beach is a truly remarkable and unique destination, a place unlike any other you’ll encounter. Situated in Dawa County, Panjin, Liaoning, China, it’s renowned for its astonishing expanse of red vegetation, covering dozens of square miles and creating a mesmerizing, continuous color field. This extraordinary landscape isn’t sand that’s turned red; it’s a vast wetland dominated by Suaeda salsa, a salt-loving seaweed that transforms dramatically with the seasons.
During the summer months, the dominant color is a light green, shifting to a deep, vibrant red as autumn approaches. This seasonal change is due to the salty soil and brackish water, providing the perfect environment for this incredible biological carpet to flourish. It’s a stunning demonstration of nature’s adaptability and a visual spectacle that’s best appreciated from above. While the area is visually arresting, accessing it can present challenges; currently, there isn't regular public transport, and arranging a taxi can incur significant costs.
Visitors have commented on the beauty of the beach, particularly during the autumn months when the red hues are at their peak. It’s a place that sparks curiosity and wonder, offering a genuinely unforgettable experience for those seeking something truly unusual. Remember to check for the latest travel information regarding transport options before planning your visit.

Red Beach (simplified Chinese: 红海滩; traditional Chinese: 紅海灘; pinyin: Hóng hǎitān), located in Dawa County, Panjin, Liaoning, China, is famous for its landscape featuring the red plant of Suaeda salsa (Chinese: 碱蓬草) of the family Chenopodiaceae.[citation needed] It is based in the biggest wetland and reed marsh in the world. The landscape is composed of shallow seas and tide-lands. The Sueda is one of the few species of plant that can live in highly alkaline soil. Its growth cycle starts in April when it is colored light red, while the color of the mature species is deep red. Panjin Shuangtaizi River mouth state-level nature protection area (盘锦双台子河口自然保护区) preserves a very large, ecologically intact wetland. More than 260 kinds of birds and 399 kinds of wild animals live in it. It was promoted to the state-level nature protection area in 1988 and has applied to join the International person and biosphere protectorate network. The largest reed marsh in Asia is also located here, attracting many tourists. The reeds are used to make paper. The red-crowned crane (Grus japonensis) also reproduces here and it is also the endangered black-mouth gull's largest breeding area.
