Fairy Pools
Nestled within the dramatic landscape of the Isle of Skye, the Fairy Pools offer a truly unforgettable experience. These natural pools and waterfalls, fed by crystal-clear streams tumbling down from the Quin mountains, create a scene that feels plucked straight from a fantasy novel. The water, a striking shade of blue and green thanks to the unique py soil, invites visitors to take a refreshing – though brisk – dip, or simply to marvel at its beauty.
The pools are a popular destination for photographers and nature lovers alike, and the surrounding area provides a tranquil setting for a leisurely walk. The path leading down to the pools is generally straightforward, although be mindful of the terrain – there are rocks and boulders along the way. While parking can be limited, especially during peak season, the journey is well worth the effort. Many visitors describe it as a sacred Druidic site, adding to the area’s mystical atmosphere. It’s a relatively easy walk to access the initial pools, allowing you to explore as much or as little of the network as you wish. If time is short, a quick visit to the upper pools is still a rewarding experience.
Remember to take appropriate footwear and be prepared for changeable weather conditions. Consider using public transport – the local autocarro service can take you close to the trailhead – or be aware that the road to the car park is a single-track lane. It’s a truly special place to discover, and a highlight for anyone exploring the Highlands of Scotland.

We walked all the way to the mountains, the pools are magical all the way. So many places to stop and drink from the crystal clear blue magical water from the mountains... A very sacred Druidic site that is thankfully being looked after...
Fairy pools was an experience. They charge a fair amount for the car park and it's a bit of a trek to get there but once you're there you can walk as far or as little as you like. Its good fun because you can walk alongside or be on the rocks amongst the waterfalls. Its just a beautiful experience and definitely a place I would visit often if and when I have the chance.
Great place but parking is a premium, bit of a walk from car park
Single track road to access
Fairy Pools is an amazing walk! Path is mostly straightforward once you go down the initial hill. Just be mindful of the of the odd rock and boulders to trip over if you wander off the path. But it so definitely worth it! There are gorgeous crystal clear pool and waterfalls. Once you get to the main waterfall you can walk back. Or brave the longer walk up into the hills and round back to the start. That was my choice. And the views are stunning. Sensible walking boots are a good shout.
We went. But got too the top car park. Saw the walk. Wife's not that fast.

Worked out we couldn't do the walk... This time round.... As we had to get to Dumfries by 7
This place is really worth a visit. Be careful of the traffic going there as the road is quite narrow. But once there, it is truly lots of wonderful sights !
