Description

A circular 4-hour route through central Denver, designed to connect historic LoDo, a classic city street, civic architecture, art, and a waterside pause. It is a balanced plan for getting a feel for the city without leaving downtown or needing a car.

In total, expect around 6 to 7 km on foot, roughly 1h20 to 1h30 of walking, and the rest of the time for short visits, photos, and breaks. The plan works best with comfortable shoes and some flexibility at the Denver Art Museum: if you want a slower museum visit, trim a few minutes from the earlier stops.

1 Attraction Union Station, Denver Denver 00:00 - 00:30. Start at historic Union Station, stepping inside the restored building to enjoy the architecture, the LoDo atmosphere, and, if useful, a coffee before the walk. 2 Attraction Larimer Square, Denver Denver 00:40 - 01:00. Walk about 10 minutes to Larimer Square, one of Denver's signature streets, with historic facades, independent shops, and very photogenic string lights. 3 Attraction Civic Center Park, Denver Denver 01:15 - 01:35. Continue to Civic Center Park for a slower stop among lawns, monuments, and civic architecture in the heart of the city. 4 Attraction Colorado State Capitol, Denver Denver 01:35 - 02:00. Move on to the Colorado State Capitol. If it is open, climb to the steps for views over downtown Denver and, on clear days, the Rocky Mountains in the background. 5 Attraction Denver Art Museum Denver 02:00 - 02:45. Make the next stop the Denver Art Museum. Even on a quick visit, the exterior architecture makes it worthwhile; if you enjoy art, choose one or two main galleries. 6 Attraction Confluence Park (Downtown) - Denver Denver 03:05 - 03:40. Take the longest walk of the loop to Confluence Park, where the South Platte River and Cherry Creek meet. It is a good green pause before returning downtown. 7 Attraction Union Station, Denver Denver 03:55 - 04:00. Return to Union Station to close the loop. If there is still time, finish with a drink or snack before moving on.

8 Note Alternative plan by car If you prefer to drive, consider swapping part of the downtown time for Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre, about 25 to 30 minutes from Denver without traffic. In that case, keep Union Station, Larimer Square, and the Civic Center/Capitol area as shorter stops.
