Nestled within China’s Hunan Province, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park presents a landscape unlike any other – a truly breathtaking realm of over 3,000 towering, vertical sandstone pillars that rise dramatically into the sky. These colossal formations, some reaching hundreds of meters, have captivated artists and filmmakers alike, most famously inspiring the ‘Hallelujah Mountains’ featured in the film Avatar. It’s a place that feels almost mythical, a testament to the power of nature’s artistry.
Beyond the iconic pillars, the park boasts a rich tapestry of dense forests, providing a haven for a remarkable diversity of wildlife. Visitors can explore winding trails, immersing themselves in the tranquility of this natural sanctuary. Don’t miss the opportunity to walk across the world’s longest and highest glass bridge – a thrilling experience offering panoramic views of the entire park. Access to the park is primarily via the East Gate, particularly popular due to its connection to the famed Avatar landscapes, and efficiently serviced by a fast elevator.
There are several entry points, including cable car routes and regular bus services, allowing you to navigate the park with ease. Many people choose to stay at the YOLO resort, located directly within the park, offering a fantastic community experience. The park consistently receives high praise from visitors, with many describing it as a truly unforgettable journey into a world seemingly separate from reality. It’s a destination that blends the awe of natural wonders with the ingenuity of human engineering, creating an experience that is both exhilarating and profoundly serene.

Probably one of the greatest days I’ve spent on my 3 week China Trip were in this National Park. I stayed in the YOLO resort. It’s actually IN the park itself and has a great community. Don’t be affraid to talk and make friends to other people in the Resort. Seize the Day. Talk to the locals. All in all Great. Experience and huge National park. I‘ll attach some pictures I took in the Park.
One of the best hiking spots in china. There are 4 gates via which you can visit the forest but the most popular one is east gate due to avatar Mountains and the fastest elevator. You can buy passed according to which gate and cable car you want to take.
Unfortunately I was there on a cloudy day but even then the mystic vibe gave it a good touch.
Multiple vantage points to view one of the most geographically spectacular sites on the planet.
Many entry points and various options to travel around the park. Cable cars, busses operating regularly and efficiently.
None of the on-site staff speak any English, which seems unusual for an international destination, so consider hiring a guide.
Not one of the cheapest Chinese tourists places.
