The Rua Augusta Triumphal Arch, located in Praça do Comércio, Lisbon, is one of the city's most iconic monuments. Built after the 1755 earthquake as a symbol of the capital's reconstruction, the arch celebrates the strength and resilience of the Portuguese people. Its impressive façade features sculptures of historical figures such as Vasco da Gama, the Marquis of Pombal, and Nuno Álvares Pereira, as well as an allegory of Glory crowning Genius and Valor. From the top of the arch, accessible to the public, one obtains one of the most breathtaking views of downtown Lisbon, the Tagus River, and the surrounding houses. It is, without a doubt, an urban landmark that combines history, art, and panorama in one place.
