The Aguiar da Beira Clock Tower or Ameada Tower, the Ameada Fountain and the Aguiar da Beira Pillory were classified as national monuments on August 17, 1922, according to Decree No. 8 330 of the Diário do Governo, I Series No. 167, constituting a stretch of medieval architecture. The Aguiar da Beira Pillory had already been classified as a national monument by the Decree of June 16, 1910, Diário do Governo, No. 136, of June 23, 1910. This monumental trilogy is unique, with three national monuments structuring a space, the Monument Square, a central public space in the medieval urban fabric of the historic center of Aguiar da Beira. In 2018, the Municipality of Aguiar da Beira realized an important intervention of qualification of the monuments, which, in addition to the interventions in the properties themselves, redefined and valued the urban space through the introduction of platforms articulated with each of the buildings. With these platforms, the vast urban space of Monument Square was structured, designed and given logic.
