On Praça da República in Azeitão, Casa das Tortas Azeitão offers an introduction to local flavours, starting with the tortas that give it its name. One visitor singles out their sweet, egg-rich flavour, making them a particular draw for anyone who enjoys Portuguese sweets and wants a break while exploring the village centre.
Visitors describe more than a pastry stop. Reviews mention Azeitão cheese and wine, alongside meat and fish dishes and Portuguese specials. Black pork earns particular praise in an older review. Another visitor describes the café and restaurant as a meeting place for local residents, while an earlier account recalls a courtyard reached through a side entrance, with an outdoor barbecue.
Feedback on the food is positive, though opinions on service and value vary. Some visitors praise the friendly, knowledgeable staff; others mention expensive cheese, a long wait for the bill or a disputed charge. Several reviews are a few years old, so check the menu, prices and availability of courtyard seating when you visit.

The food was very good, but they charged us more than they should have!!! The service wasn't that great (the old chap especially, probably the owner; the girl was ok). Wated for the bill half an hour.
The place to go for the Azeitao cheese! We had a great wine as well! A little pricy for the cheese, but very friendly staff! Drawback are the different fridges in the 1910 interior.
The front looks unappetizing but when you go thru a little entrance on the side of the building it opens into a nice court with a outdoor BBQ. The wine was very refreshing and the food tasteful.
Utterly incredible food. Knowledgeable staff. Cheap! Fed 9 for just over €100 euros. Would recommend the black pig. Simply amazing.
This restaurant is truly the heart of the town of Azeitao. This is where locals go to meet other locals. It is also the first place the tourists see in the center of town. Next to the central plaza with the strange, giant, grape bunch, all Roads lead to this place. It has a restaurant and a sort of café. Both are excellent. Often places like this have second rate food but this is not the case. Pick an amazing meat or fish and it will be cooked for you on the spot. But if they have one of the Portuguese specials definitely take advantage. it could be your Portuguese grandmother cooking. If you had a Portuguese grandmother. Not to be missed! And eat a torta de Azeitao if you like the extra sweet eggy stuff.
