The Sea Viewpoint, or Miradouro do Mar, offers a stunning perspective of the magnificent gardens of the Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso, nestled in the northern slopes of the Guadarrama mountain range. Located just 13 km from Segovia and approximately 80 km from Madrid, this scenic spot is a must-visit for those looking to immerse themselves in natural beauty and historical significance.
At the heart of this enchanting landscape lies the impressive pond known as El Mar, which serves as the primary water source for the palace's renowned fountains. With a capacity of 216,000 m³, it is strategically situated at the highest point of the gardens, feeding into a complex hydraulic system that has stood the test of time for over 300 years. Visitors can marvel at the 29 fountains scattered throughout the gardens, each one a testament to the ingenuity of the original design, still operational today.
The backdrop of the Collado de la Silla del Rey and the Carpetanos Mountains creates a picturesque setting, making The Sea Viewpoint an ideal location for photography enthusiasts. Whether you seek tranquility or a glimpse into the royal history of the area, this viewpoint provides a perfect blend of both, inviting you to relax and soak in the serene atmosphere of La Granja de San Ildefonso.
