Swing of Sanfins Monastery (Valença)

Address
Mosteiro de Sanfins, Sanfins, Valença

With characteristics of the so-called Romanesque of Alto Minho and Galician influence, the Monastery of Sanfins de Friestas stands out in the landscape where it is inserted, surrounded by a monumental forest of oak trees 200 meters above sea level, enjoying wide views of the Minho River valley.

The Romanesque church dates back to the year 604 AD, with subsequent modifications.

To the north and east of the church, and around a courtyard, the ruins of the Benedictine monastery on two floors, as well as an aqueduct and small annexes, remain.

On the first level there are carved granite arches and some interiors with vaults.

Part of the small cloister has sixteenth century characteristics and the second level already has eighteenth century characteristics.

In this bucolic environment, the Baloiço do Mosteiro de Sanfins in Valença can also be found, a sofa swing accessible to visitors.
