"The Lagoa da Fajã de Santo Cristo is possibly one of the most interesting in the Azores, both from a landscape and environmental point of view. It is located in the Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo, on the island of São Jorge. This lake, in reality a lagoon, and the fajã where it is located was in 1984 classified as a natural reserve, by the Regional Government of the Azores, especially due to the existence of a population with commercial interest of clams of the species Ruditapes decussatus (the only clam commercially exploited in the Azores)."
