The Salto Viewpoint is one of the best-kept secrets on the Portuguese-Spanish border. Located in Saucelle, in the province of Salamanca, this viewpoint offers breathtaking views of the River Douro, which winds its way between granite cliffs in a truly impressive setting. The Arribas do Douro region is known for its rugged and wild landscape, where the river has carved out a deep valley over thousands of years that now serves as a natural border between Portugal and Spain. Very nice, one downside is there are a lot of stairs to go down, very nice views but then you have to go up 🤪

We arrived via a rather unpleasant mountain road, but the views were breathtaking.

This area of ​​the Arribes del Duero is absolutely stunning. It has spectacular viewpoints with hiking trails. Like the La Vela viewpoint, where you can park on the road. Near the Contrabando viewpoint, there's an easy 3.3 km route.

I highly recommend this experience. It's beautiful to see and usually not crowded, so you can go without a mask and breathe in the fresh country air. If driving, go slowly; there's a ravine on one side of the road, so it's best to stay as close to the edge as possible in case of a rockfall.
