Nestled within the dramatic Hadanka Vida Plateau, Lake Ringodal’s Vatnet is a truly unforgettable destination – a place where legend and landscape intertwine. This remarkable lake, known locally as Ringodal Vatnet, sits beneath a colossal, ancient stone tongue, said to be the petrified remains of a troll who dared to mock the sun. The story, passed down through generations, serves as a potent reminder of respecting the forces of nature.
The water itself possesses an extraordinary colour, a deep sapphire hue born from the glacial meltwater mixing with fine rock silt. On calm days, the lake’s surface transforms into a perfect mirror, reflecting the towering Nordic peaks and the expansive sky above. It’s a scene that blurs the lines between reality and illusion, creating incredibly evocative photographs. Vatnet offers a sanctuary of peace and quiet, ideal for those seeking respite from the everyday. While the surrounding terrain can be challenging, with dense forests and deep, potentially difficult-to-navigate waters, the area is renowned for its fishing opportunities – a significant draw for visitors.
Recent reviews highlight both the beauty and the occasional difficulty of accessing the lake. Many visitors appreciate the stillness and the chance to reconnect with nature, while others note the complexities of the shoreline. If you’re planning a visit, be prepared for a rugged landscape and a truly breathtaking experience, steeped in folklore and natural grandeur.

Flott vann
