Quinta do Barbusano: A Paradise of Wine Tourism in São Vicente

Located in the picturesque region of São Vicente, in the north of Madeira Island, Portugal, Quinta do Barbusano stands out as a lush wine tourism destination. Surrounded by the majestic barbusano tree, which gives it its name, the estate spreads over 12 hectares of vineyard, under the watchful eye of the tower of the Church of Nossa Senhora de Fátima. Inaugurated in 2006 by more than 80 enthusiastic members, the estate is today led by António Freitas, dedicated to the production of table wines, including unparalleled quality whites, rosés, and reds.

Exceptional Wines and a Variety of Grape Varieties

The Verdelho and Tinta Negra varieties, the most planted at Quinta do Barbusano, are accompanied by others such as Touriga Nacional, Aragonês, Arnsburger, among others in development. With vineyards also in Porto Santo, the estate prides itself on its vast range of wines, with the Barbusano white and the Barbusano barrels standing out. In 2018, the wine tourism space was renovated, including a modern tasting room with a traditional vara and spindle press, used in the grape harvest.

Unique Experiences at the Estate

A visit to Quinta do Barbusano can include a walk through the latada vineyards, wine tastings on the porch, and, as a suggestion, a traditional lunch with skewered beef on bay stick, grilled over charcoal, harmonized with an excellent selection of house wines. The hospitality is remarkable, with the staff always ready to share knowledge about the wines, accompanied by cheese and toast. With a welcoming atmosphere, the estate offers a breathtaking view, inviting moments of relaxation and contemplation.
