"The Castle of Penela is located in the parish of São Miguel, Santa Eufémia and Rabaçal, in the town and municipality of Penela, District of Coimbra, in Portugal. In a dominant position on a limestone hill, it was part of the so-called Mondego line, and had the function of an advance guard of Coimbra, at the time of the Reconquest."
