Pastel de Nata - Real by Casa da Calçada
Nestled in the heart of Porto, at R. de Rodrigues Sampaio 105, lies Pastel de Nata – Real by Casa da Calçada, a true gem for anyone seeking an authentic taste of Portugal. This isn’t just a bakery; it’s a destination for experiencing the perfect Pastel de Nata, widely considered to be among the best you’ll find in the city.
The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, offering a pleasant terrace where you can savour your treats and a good coffee. It’s located at a convenient crossroads, making it easily accessible, yet avoids the overwhelming crowds often found in the most popular spots. Many visitors agree that it offers a genuinely excellent experience – a testament to the quality of the pastries and the friendly service.
Don’t just stick to the iconic custard tart; the restaurant also serves delicious, traditional Portuguese dishes, and the menu executivo is consistently praised. And of course, you absolutely must try the bifanas (pork sandwiches) and – you guessed it – more Pastel de Nata! A refreshing apple juice is the perfect complement to your meal. It’s a simple, honest place offering exceptional quality and a truly memorable taste of Porto.

Nice place with curated atmosphere and service. Good explanation of the menu at the beginning. Tried two different "arroz" rice, one with seafood and one with duck: both were really full of flavour, creamy and rich. Also the one with duck had a great crust. Here my personal suggestions to improve even further: 1.The warmed cheese with grapes is presented as a starter, tasted really good and I'm my opinion would be even better as a dessert. Moreover it was such a large portion that would have been nice if waiter suggested to share it. 2. The octopus salad tasted really fresh, however I found it was really drowning in oil (something I saw happening also in other dishes of other Portuguese restaurants). For me a little bit less oil would made it more balanced. 3. Rice was slightly overcooked compared to other arroz I tried, felt slightly too much soft. 4. Finally the duck was slightly a bit overcooked and not red inside
Real Restaurante offers a superb Michelin-level experience. Bernardo’s excellent meal presentation and the team’s attentive, polished service perfectly complement the creative, beautifully presented and delicious dishes rooted in Portuguese tradition. Definitely a must-visit in Porto.⭐️
Myself and my family attended this restaurant twice in our 4 day trip as the food and service are both superb! The cod and piri chicken are so delicious and the creme brulee is amazing. Cannot forget about the sourdough bread which is so yummy! The attention of the staff is fantastic, they were all so lovely and welcoming. I highly recommend this restaurant and will surely be back soon! :)
Amazing wine list with a great local variety. Starters where mouth watering and our mains where excellent.
This was the most amazing dinner we’ve had in Portugal! The food was more than delicious and the people were very kind and did everything to make our night great.
