Neiva Castle (Viana do Castelo)

Address
R. Monte do Castelo, 4935 Castelo do Neiva
Proto-urban agglomeration. Iron Age settlement with a significant Roman and medieval occupation. Fortified settlement / village with five lines of walls and circular-plan houses. It has large dimensions, admitting that the archaeological structures extend to the Neiva River. It includes a Romanesque castle with a manor tower made of stone, surrounded by a wall (it is still unknown if it was made of wood or stone), thus expressing a kind of passive defense. The main house seemed to be covered by schist and the annexes would probably have been made of wood, explaining the absence of traces of dwellings on top.
