In Vila Real
The Church of Mateus, located in Vila Real, is a true heritage of religious architecture. This iconic Mannerist and Baroque church, located in the city center, offers its view of different religious celebrations throughout the region. The longitudinal church is composed of an illuminated nave and chancel with wooden ceilings. If we stop to look at the façades, we find qualities appreciated by any look that discovers them, such as the pilastered architraves and the ones finished in frieze and cornice. The main façade that ends in a triangular pediment, displays a niche with the image of the patron saint in the tympanum. We also find windows of capialço style and the large trapezoidal door of straight rod. On the right side, connected to the Bell Tower, is the door to the high choir, an admirable feature of the building. Finally, the back façade is embossed in this simple yet grandeur church. Its interior reflects all the works of art and carvings, namely the high choir, the various gilded carved altarpieces and the painted coffered ceilings. In the chancel and in several altars, the beautiful floral arrangements make this place a unique destination.
