"At the village of Marmelal you can enjoy the landscape that can be seen from there: the Douro river in the background, with the mouth of the Tedo River joining it framed by the beauty of the terraces of vineyards where the grapes are grown for the production of the excellent Douro and Port wines. Marmelal, the second settlement in the area, was one of the first municipalities in Armamar. It had a charter in 1194. For centuries the settlement had no land access, the Douro River being its only point of contact with the outside world."
