La Piedra Del Peñol
Dominating the landscape near Medellín, El Peñol, also known as La Piedra Del Peñol, is a truly remarkable geological wonder. This imposing monolith, formed over 65 to 70 million years ago from ancient granite and quartz, rises dramatically to nearly 650 feet, a testament to the power of geological processes. Its distinctive split – a significant natural fracture – creates a striking vertical groove that makes it instantly recognizable from miles away. For many years, a zigzag staircase has been meticulously built along this crack, providing visitors with the opportunity to ascend this challenging yet rewarding climb.
The ascent itself, involving over 700 steps, typically takes between 15 and 25 minutes. The steepness of the slope certainly adds a sense of adventure to the experience. Reaching the summit offers an unforgettable panorama – a vivid feeling of standing atop an immense, ancient rock formation. It’s a perspective that creates a lasting memory and provides a unique appreciation for the region’s natural history. Visitors consistently praise the spectacular views and the invigorating challenge of the climb, making El Peñol a must-see destination for anyone exploring the area. You can reach the base of the Peñol by autocarro (bus) from Medellín, offering a convenient and affordable way to begin your journey.

Hermoso.. bacanooo
