The idea originated during an event called Car Village. The Parish Council of Avô, in partnership with the event organizers and the Oliveira do Hospital City Hall, decided to create something different and original. Inspired by the Caribbean water swings, the Council took care of the materials, the organizers took care of the letters spelling "Avô," and the local government provided the necessary machinery. The result is a tourist attraction that promises to be the center of attention in the region during the bathing season.

The place is not only beautiful but also inclusive. In 2016, the Avô River Beach was awarded the Most Accessible Beach prize by the National Institute for Rehabilitation. The bathing season is open from July 1st and extends until August 31st.
