Nestled in the heart of the Alentejo, where time seems to slow down and nature dictates the pace of life, Mora reveals hidden gems waiting to be discovered at a leisurely pace. One such place is the Praia Fluvial do Gameiro, a true natural refuge now enhanced by a charming swing, inviting visitors to pause, breathe deeply, and simply appreciate the scenery.

With the message “Demora-te” (Take your time), the swing installed alongside the river beach perfectly embodies the spirit of this location. Surrounded by trees, with the tranquility of the water nearby and the characteristic silence of the Alentejo interior, it has quickly become a must-visit spot for anyone visiting Mora. More than just a photographic element, it’s an invitation to live in the moment and enjoy the serenity of the surroundings.

The Praia Fluvial do Gameiro is part of the well-known Parque Ecológico do Gameiro, one of the most beautiful surprises in the Alentejo. This natural space is particularly popular during the hotter months, thanks to the refreshing waters of the Ribeira Raia river, ideal green spaces for picnics, and the family-friendly and peaceful atmosphere it provides.

It’s also here that the famous Passadiço do Gameiro begins – a route following the riverbank through truly idyllic landscapes, between riverside vegetation and the typical Alentejo ‘montados’ (scrubland). Along the way, you can observe various bird species, such as white storks, grey herons, and jays, making the walk even more special for nature lovers. The wooden walkway is approximately 1.5 km (3 km return) and integrates a wider circular pedestrian route, ideal for those who enjoy walking in nature. Currently, however, the Passadiços do Gameiro are temporarily closed due to a situation regarding a property crossed by the route. The Municipal Council of Mora is working to resolve the situation and reopen the walkways as soon as possible.

Speaking of Gameiro is inevitably speaking of Mora, an authentic Alentejan village rich in heritage. Located in the district of Évora, Mora stands out for its hospitality, traditional gastronomy, and strong connection to nature. Besides the Gameiro, one of its major landmarks is the Fluviário de Mora, a unique space in Portugal dedicated to freshwater ecosystems, ideal for visiting with family. Between tranquil landscapes, Alentejo flavours, and outdoor experiences, Mora firmly establishes itself as a perfect destination for those seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. And if you pass by the Gameiro, you know: sit on the swing, contemplate the landscape, and… take your time.
