Built in the 18th century as a watchtower against invaders, the Fortim do Faial (Santana) is today presented as a viewing point and is considered a Local Value Monument. This monument has a recreational and nineteenth-century architecture. The viewpoint recreates a semicircular military battery, following the profile of the slope where it is placed, with an outer wall, having two thirds lower advanced and a masonry capping. It has in the courtyard a small support house, of quadrangular shape, with characteristics of the popular Madeiran architecture.
