In São Roque do Pico
The Ermida de São Vicente is located in the place of São Vicente, in the parish of Santa Luzia, in the municipality of São Roque do Pico, in the island of Pico, in the archipelago of the Azores. Its construction was started by Father João José de Melo, then vicar and ombudsman of the locality of São Roque, between 1768 and 1783, with the aim of allowing it to be dedicated to the saint of the same name. In 1967 a profound expansion was made, raising the main body of the Hermitage and the sacristy, as well as the main chapel. The walls were also raised to create the choir, changing the bell to an adapted belfry. Additionally, an image of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was acquired, which had an offer of a crown. Due to its solid and robust structure, refuge was sought in this temple during the seismic crisis of 1973. The feast of the patron saint is celebrated on the closest Sunday to mid-July each year. The Ermida de São Vicente allows car access along the sea, offering a view of the village and all the comfort of an unforgettable sacred place. Visit this Portuguese beauty and be enchanted with the unique architecture and tranquility of this religious sanctuary.
