Ermida / Church of Our Lady of Ajuda (Ponta Delgada)
The Church of Our Lady of Help is a Catholic church from the Azores located on the Island of São Miguel, in the municipality of Ponta Delgada. This beautiful attraction has the famous invocation of Our Lady of Help and Our Lady of the Angels.
According to historical accounts, the main feast is celebrated on August 15, with emphasis on its commendam which was increased to better support the vicar, according to a document signed on July 30, 1568.
In the sixteenth century, the parish shelter 99 fires, reason why D. Manuel de Gouveia, Bishop of Angra do Heroísmo, appointed a curate to assist the vicar on July 25, 1596. Already in 1634, Gaspar de Carvalho was the vicar of the church. In 1737, a lot of money was invested in ornaments.
