Custard Tart - Café 55, Porto
If you’re looking for a truly exceptional culinary experience in Porto, you absolutely must visit Café 55. I recently had the pleasure of experiencing their delights, and I can confidently say it’s now firmly at the top of my list of favourite places to eat in the city.
This small, independent café boasts its own bakery, and everything is crafted with remarkable care and freshness. We started with the salmon salad and salmon focaccia – both perfectly portioned and executed with obvious skill. But let’s be honest, the real star of the show is the Pastel de Nata. Seriously, it was superb! Undoubtedly the best Pastel de Nata I’ve ever tasted, and I’ve sampled quite a few throughout my travels.
Conveniently located close to the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, it’s an ideal spot for a delightful brunch or a treat after your visit. They offer fantastic deals, like the €10 brunch, which includes scrambled eggs, toasted sourdough, coffee, and, of course, a freshly baked Pastel de Nata. The team are incredibly friendly and helpful – even the server on her first day shone! If you're seeking authentic Portuguese flavours and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, Café 55 is a must-visit.
