Church of the Divine Spirit Sant (Povoação)
The Church of the Divine Holy Spirit is located on Rua Dona Adelaide Cabral Amaral, in Lomba do Alcaide - Povoação. This church is a landmark of this parish, as well as a place where Christian souls gather to worship.
With three hundred souls gather in groups of catechism, choirs, Stewardship of the Holy Spirit and Rosary meetings. The first religious temple built in Lomba do Alcaide dates back to 1881, resulting from a vow of faith.
In 1984, the modern shrine of the Divine Holy Spirit was opened. This shrine has straight lines, with a view to the sea, with small temples for specific devotions, such as Our Lady of Good Weather, Holy Christ, St. Joseph, Lady of Conception and Lady of Fatima.
Between November 2017 and June 2018, an interior requalification of this space was carried out, with the support of the local authorities, as well as emigrant communities from America and Bermuda, in addition to the generous collaboration of the Christian community of this community.
The result of these works was the recovery of the chapel of Our Lady of Bonanza, in addition to the creation of a chapel for the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist. The Church of the Divine Holy Spirit can be visited by car. A lovely place to cultivate faith and enjoy the view of the sea.
