Church of the Convent of Santo António (Aveiro)
The Church of the Convent of Santo Antonio is in the Municipality of Aveiro. Located in Largo de Santo António PJ, 3810-169 Aveiro, it is the perfect temple for those who wish to discover one of the city's largest religious monuments.
Integrated in a convent that was founded in 1524, this church went through various reform and reconstruction works throughout the centuries. In 1564 it underwent renovations, which included heightening and enlarging the church spaces. Many other works followed during the eighteenth century, such as application of gilded carvings in the main chapel, lining of the lateral chapels of the crossing arch, application of painted tiles in the main chapel, chairs in the choir, canvases and gilded lining in the sacristy, building of a cloister.
Tourists are mainly attracted by the beauty of its twin chapels of Santo Antonio and São Francisco, which have protobarroque façades. This church is in the center of the city and offers stunning views of the landscapes beyond. You can get there by car easily and comfortably.
