Church of Terra Chã (Angra do Heroísmo, Portugal)

Address
M501 31, Terra Chã

The Church of Terra Chã, located in the Azorean parish of Terra Chã, municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, island of Terceira, evokes memories of times already lived. The Parish Church of Nossa Senhora de Belém offers an elegant and beautiful architecture, with the façade divided between the main body of the church and the bell tower. It was João Moniz Corte Real, descendant of the founders of an ancient hermitage, who donated the land for the construction of this church. The laying of the first stone took place on November 21, 1846, and the construction lasted until 1857. One of the causes of the delay was the lack of funds. Beautiful, small and cozy, the Church of Terra Chã is a place of faith, elegance and beauty. A beautiful, simple and peaceful place of prayer, worth visiting. It is a place of tranquility, with surrounding green spaces, full of history. The interior of the church is very well decorated, with rich paintings and carvings. The altar with gilded carving is especially striking, as is the incredible collection of sacred arts, from the altar to the sacristy. A visit to this church can be a moment of worship and peace.
