Church of St. John the Baptist (Lajes do Pico)
The Church of Saint John the Baptist, on Rua do Porto, 9930, in the parish of São João, in the municipality of Lajes do Pico, Azores, is a magnificent example of 19th century religious architecture. Built in stonework, it has three naves separated by a columnata, connected by perfect round arches. The façade is very well clad in white tiles.
The Iberian-Romanic organ tubing organ of 1884, rebuilt in 2007, is also noteworthy and has been classified as a national monument.
It is worth mentioning that the church is located next to the sea, with a stunning view of the village and the Atlantic Ocean. All of this can be admired from the atrium, accessible by staircase. By car, it is possible to find an access to the entrance.
It is a unique temple with magnificent views of the sea, an excellent example of the parish church of the Azores that can not fail to inspire fascination to those who visit it.
