Address
R. da Vitória Igreja, 1100-618 Lisboa

The Church of São Nicolau, located in the Baixa area of Lisbon, offers a unique atmosphere and a historical sightseeing tour full of interest. Historically, it was built in 1280, but the reconstruction which gave rise to the remarkable building seen today happened after the devastating earthquake of 1755.

The exterior façade is discreet but inside the church impresses with its splendor. It is possible to observe a series of paintings on the ceiling, which describe the life of Saint Nicholas, as well as various sculptures of saints in the niches. A beautiful golden sacramental throne dominates the main chapel.

At the far back there is a multilingual monitor screen with information about the building, the history of the church, details of the reconstructions and details about important works of art that exist within this space. The building is open during most of the day, enabling the visit to this inspiring place. The church can be accessible by car and the view to the city is of great beauty.
