"The Castle of Chaves, or the Castle of Chaves and remains of the embattled fortification in the city, is located in the parish of Santa Maria Maior, city and municipality of Chaves, district of Vila Real, in Portugal. In a dominant position on a hillside overlooking the Tâmega River, it defended the border with Galicia."
