Chapel of São Simão (Coimbra)

Address
Coimbra

Discover an amazing place when visiting Coimbra: the Chapel of Saint Simon. Located in Pedrulha, it is a municipal property and was built in isolated lands to serve as a bulwark to the Catholic saints of the time.

Its appearance is remarkable. It has renovations from 1890 and 1925 and a signboard on the façade. A sculpture of the titular saint, Saint Simon, also features in the Pedrulha Parish. The saint is dressed as a Franciscan, presenting a dove on a book in his left hand.

But, beyond the chapel's appearance, its location is unparalleled. Located at the top of a hill, it offers breathtaking views of the city, at a good distance. Although access is possible by car, do not hesitate to spend a few minutes walking up there. The experience will be more rewarding when you spot the chapel and the spectacular views that surround it.

Visit this ancient and inspiring chapel. This small and modest building - where history and culture are always present - will make your city visit special and unique.
