The Chapel of Our Lady of the Mount, located in the Mirador of the same name, is located in the council of Lisbon, in the locality of 1170-253. Its appreciated location in the city offers a stunning view. All its historical charm originates in the Hermitage built after the conquest of the Moorish kingdom. Dedicated to St. Gens, preacher and one of the first bishops of Olisipo (Lisbon) and martyred in 284, the hermitage was given to the Augustinian friars who brought to it a stone carved chair, according to tradition, belonging to St. Gens. This legend of this chair attracted many pregnant women at that time, who claimed to have graces granted for the birth of their children. It is believed that Dona Maria Ana Josefa knelt in that same chair while she was pregnant with the future King D. José I. Unfortunately, the 1755 earthquake destroyed the Hermitage, later remodeled according to Honorato José Teixeira's project, titled "Chapel of Our Lady of the Mount". This religious temple houses the image of our Patroness, as well as an image of St. Gens, to the left of the altar, which serves once again as a reference to history. With an atmosphere of religious retreat, the Chapel of Our Lady of the Mount is a place that cannot go unnoticed. It is located on a hill that offers a beautiful view and accessible by car or on foot. So come and enjoy this living memory! Come to the Chapel of Our Lady of the Mount, in the council of Lisbon, and be a witness of the history of the city!
