Chapel of Our Lady of Penha de França (Braga), Portugal

Address
Av. Central 144, 4710-229 Braga

Nossa Senhora da Penha de França Chapel in Braga is a well-kept secret and a unique attraction in the city centre. Its grand Baroque gate and its privileged location with a view over the city make it a notable destination in the municipality of Braga.

It is in the second half of the 17th century that the chapel welcomed the beata capuchin sisters, and was renovated in 1719 for a rule of the Immaculate Conception. In 1866, it became the D. Pedro V invalids nursery, maintaining virtually intact its cloister and chapel.

Its interior shows a XVIII century pulpit in gilded carving, attributed to Marceliano de Araújo. The decoration of the walls features a series of tiles from the author Policarpo Oliveira Bernardes. Access to the chapel is easy, and it is possible to reach it by car to Av. Central 144.

The Nossa Senhora da Penha de França Chapel is a unique place to admire the architectural development of the city of Braga throughout the centuries. Visit and discover its wealth and beauty!
