Chapel of Our Lady of Consolation (Braga)
The Chapel of Our Lady of Consolation, located in Braga, is a beautiful 17th century construction. It is surrounded by a beautiful green area, which offers walking trails in the woods, and even for a picnic.
This historic religious structure was erected in the era of temples, with the aim of eternalizing prayer in honor of some mythical deity. The Confraternity that became so important in it was born only in 1517.
The Chapel has a rectangular structure in granite, composed of a magnificent door flanked by two small square windows. In the center dominates the Latin cross accompanied by two pyramidal pinnacles. To the left of the entrance, the bell tower and the sacristy space emerge.
The interior of the temple is of great simplicity. Flanked by the perfectly circular triumphal arch, the main retable is formed by a gilded image of Our Lady of Consolation, accompanied by Saint Joaquim and Saint Anne.
The Chapel of Our Lady of Consolation, a masterpiece in the middle of nature, is the personification of the transition between pagan and Christian in a place that allows you to admire the beautiful view of the city of Braga. If you want to visit this historical and inspiring work, it is easy to get there by car.
