The history of the chapel dates back to 1420, when it was ordered to be built by João Gonçalves Zarco, the discoverer of this "pearl of the Atlantic." Located in the heart of Câmara de Lobos, the chapel underwent several restorations between 1723 and 1908, resulting in the magnificent structure we admire today. With a baroque altar in gilded carving and works by Nicolau Ferreira, the chapel was classified in 1993 as of Cultural Regional value by the Regional Government of Madeira.

The Chapel of Our Lady of Conception is not only one of the oldest in Madeira but also a center of devotion, celebrating the feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th. The 18th-century altarpiece, the paintings on the ceiling and walls, and the image of Our Lady of Conception, often depicted with the Child Jesus in her arms, are highlights that enchant visitors and devotees.
