Castelo Branco Cathedral (Castelo Branco)
Located in the heart of the city of Castelo Branco, the Cathedral of the See is a tourist attraction full of history and beauty. Originally of medieval design, the Cathedral underwent various renovations in the 17th century, revealing Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo elements. It was elevated to the category of See upon the creation of the Diocese of Castelo Branco in 1771. Unlike other cathedrals, the Cathedral of the See of Castelo Branco has a preserved façade, almost without decorations. However, it is a must-visit place to admire images like that of St. Michael and the symbol of the Holy Spirit.
Its interior also does not disappoint, highlighted by the Baroque retable and the chapel of the Holy One, both enhanced in the 18th century. The church dates back to the 13th century and was rebuilt at the end of the 17th century due to the destruction of much of the building.
Considered a National Monument, the Cathedral of the See of Castelo Branco is certainly a visit not to be missed for those in the area. The unique beauty, the austere simplicity of the façade and the exuberant heritage kept in its walls, create a unique experience that is worth experiencing.
