The Captain's Lagoon is the largest on the island of Pico. It is at an average altitude of around 826 meters and has an abundant endemic Macaronesian vegetation around it, very rich in various species, with prominence for the Azorean Erica, cedars, laurels and vinhaticos. Throughout the year it is possible to observe: gray heron, yellow-legged gull, blackbird, tit, Canary Island, wrasse, little grebe, common wood pigeon, common sandpiper, skylark, common crow, American pipit, blue-winged teal, collared dove, blackcap, American martin, American sandpiper.
