The Torre de Almofala, classified as a National Monument, stands on a small upland on the top of a hill belonging to the parish of Almofala, in the council of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo. The Torre site is known in the region as Casarão da Torre, Torre dos Frades, Torre de Aguiar or Torre das Águias. In older documents it appears with the name Turris Aquilaris. The Torre de Almofala is of Roman foundation, which was originally used as a temple. In the time span between the High Middle Ages and the time when it was remodeled, it will have kept its original track.
